Cones are sized to the balancer's shaft diameter, commonly 36mm or 40mm, and to the range of center bore sizes you need to cover. Confirm your machine's shaft size before ordering — a cone set for the wrong shaft will not mount.
The cone centers the wheel on the shaft. If the cone does not match the wheel's center bore closely, the wheel mounts off-center and the machine measures an imbalance that is not really there. Poor centering is a common cause of a wheel that balances on the machine but still vibrates.
