If the tank, motor, electrical controls, and starter are still in spec, replacing the pump alone is roughly half the cost of a new compressor. The decision usually hinges on tank age — most compressor tanks have a useful service life of 15 to 20 years before internal corrosion becomes a concern. If the tank is approaching that range, full replacement is the better investment.
Match horsepower, CFM at operating pressure, pulley diameter, mounting footprint, and discharge port size. Most FS Curtis bare pumps have stable mounting patterns within a horsepower range. Provide the existing compressor model and serial number — the Alamo parts desk will cross-reference to a direct fit.

No. New pumps require a break-in period — typically 50 hours of light load operation with frequent oil changes during the first 10, 25, and 50 hours. Follow the manufacturer's break-in oil change schedule precisely; this is the single biggest factor in long-term pump reliability.
HP rating, voltage (single-phase 230V or three-phase 208/230/460V), frame size (NEMA 56, 145T, 184T, etc.), shaft diameter, RPM, and service factor. Air compressor motors typically run at 1.0 service factor at full load and should be sized to the compressor pump load — undersizing causes overload trips and motor burnout.
Only if your electrical service supports the higher single-phase amperage and the motor frame matches. Single-phase motors at 5 HP and above draw heavy starting currents and may exceed branch circuit capacity. For 7.5 HP and larger, three-phase is strongly preferred — converting requires upgraded electrical service and a properly sized motor.
FS Curtis specifies a non-detergent compressor oil — typically ISO 100 viscosity for piston pumps in normal ambient temperatures. Detergent automotive oils foam and degrade rapidly under compressor service and should never be substituted. Always use the manufacturer-specified oil to maintain warranty coverage.
