A/C Filters FAQs
Automotive A/C service machine filters for refrigerant recovery, recycling, and recharge equipment — oil separator filters, refrigerant particulate filters, vacuum pump inline filters, and internal desiccant cartridges compatible with R-134a and R-1234yf service platforms.
Professional A/C service machines require periodic replacement of refrigerant filters (which remove particulates from recovered refrigerant), oil separator filters (which remove compressor oil from refrigerant before recycling), vacuum pump, inline filters (which protect the pump from refrigerant contamination), and internal desiccant cartridges (which absorb moisture from the refrigerant circuit).
Filter replacement intervals vary by machine manufacturer and usage volume. Most manufacturers recommend replacing refrigerant filters every 150 to 200 lbs of refrigerant processed or annually, whichever comes first. High-volume shops processing large amounts of refrigerant daily should inspect filters more frequently.
A clogged refrigerant filter restricts flow, slows recovery and charge cycles, and can allow contaminated refrigerant to pass through into the recycled supply. A saturated oil separator can allow oil carry-over into the refrigerant recycling circuit. Neglected filters reduce equipment performance and can result in substandard refrigerant quality delivered to vehicle systems.
No. R-134a and R-1234yf require separate, dedicated service machines and separate filter sets rated for each refrigerant's specific properties. Do not substitute R-134a filters in R-1234yf equipment — filter
media compatibility and dimensional specifications may differ between refrigerant-specific machine designs.
Identify your A/C service machine's brand and model number from the equipment nameplate. Filter part numbers are model-specific. Alamo Equipment stocks Mahle -compatible filter kits and can assist with matching filter assemblies to your specific machine model.
Yes. Alamo is an authorized Mahle dealer and stocks filter maintenance kits for Mahle ACX and related A/C service platforms. Contact us with your Mahle machine model number for specific filter part numbers, replacement intervals, and any associated o-ring or desiccant kits required for your machine generation.
Using non-OEM filters can affect equipment performance and may void the manufacturer's warranty. For machines under warranty, use manufacturer-approved filters. For out-of-warranty equipment, aftermarket filters may be acceptable but should meet the same dimensional and filtration specifications as the OEM parts.
A desiccant cartridge is a moisture-absorbing insert in the machine's refrigerant circuit that captures water vapor. When saturated, it can no longer prevent moisture from contaminating recovered refrigerant.
Replacement is typically required annually or when the machine's moisture indicator shows saturation.
