Filter replacement intervals vary by machine manufacturer and usage volume. Most manufacturers recommend replacing refrigerant filters every 150 to 200 lbs of refrigerant processed or annually, whichever comes first. High-volume shops processing large amounts of refrigerant daily should inspect filters more frequently.

A clogged refrigerant filter restricts flow, slows recovery and charge cycles, and can allow contaminated refrigerant to pass through into the recycled supply. A saturated oil separator can allow oil carry-over into the refrigerant recycling circuit.
