FS-Curtis OL Series FAQs

The OL series is FS-Curtis's oil-less reciprocating compressor line, offered as basic pump assemblies in roughly the 5 to 15 HP range and as complete tank-mounted simplex and duplex packages. It serves applications where compressor lubricant cannot be allowed to reach the air stream.

When oil carryover into the air stream is unacceptable — food and beverage, pharmaceutical, medical and dental air, some finishing work, and electronics assembly. For general automotive service, a lubricated compressor with good coalescing filtration is normally sufficient and costs less to own.

No — removing the lubricant removes one contamination source. The air still carries atmospheric moisture and particulate that must be dried and filtered. Oil-less changes what you are filtering for, not whether filtration is needed.

There is no oil to change, but oil-less pumps generally have shorter wear-component intervals than lubricated pumps of the same size, because the compression elements run without an oil film. Compare the manufacturer's stated interval against your expected annual run hours before selecting.

Oil-less reciprocating units commonly run louder than equivalent lubricated units. If the compressor is near a work area or customer space, plan for an equipment room or enclosure. Check the sound rating on the specific model during selection.

Simplex has one pump and motor; duplex has two on a shared receiver. Duplex provides redundancy and staged capacity, which matters in applications where an air outage stops production. Duplex requires more electrical capacity and more floor space.

Units in this range are generally specified for three-phase power. Confirm voltage, phase, and full-load amperage for the specific model against your building service before ordering. If your facility has only single-phase service, that will narrow the model options considerably and should be established early in the selection.
