RES is FS-Curtis's line of energy-saving refrigerated air dryers, available in air-cooled and water-cooled configurations across a wide flow range. The energy-saving design reduces refrigeration run time at part load rather than running the circuit continuously.

A conventional non-cycling dryer runs its refrigeration circuit continuously regardless of how much air is actually flowing. An energy-saving design modulates or stores cooling so the refrigeration compressor runs less when demand is low. The savings scale with how variable your air demand is.

Payback depends on how much of the time your system runs below full flow and on local electricity cost. Shops with steady round-the-clock demand see less benefit; shops with shift-based or highly variable demand see more. These suffixes designate different configurations within the RES line. Selection depends on the flow capacity, cooling method, and control features required for your installation. Confirm the correct variant for your application before ordering rather than matching on flow rating alone.

Air-cooled is simpler and needs no water infrastructure, and suits a normally ventilated equipment room. Water-cooled suits hot equipment rooms, high ambient conditions, or plants with an existing cooling water loop. Water-cooled models in this series carry a WC designation.

Size on the actual SCFM your compressor delivers at working pressure, and confirm the dryer's rating at your inlet air temperature and ambient conditions. Published flow ratings assume standard conditions — hot inlet air or a hot room derates the unit substantially.

Refrigerated dryers of this type typically deliver a pressure dew point in the range that prevents condensation in shop piping at normal indoor temperature. If your air lines run through spaces that get colder than that, or your application needs much drier air, desiccant drying is required instead.

Keep the condenser clean, confirm the automatic drain actually discharges, and watch the dew point indication. A stuck drain is the most common failure — the dryer appears to run normally while condensate backs up and carries into the air system.
