The CT series is a line of two-stage reciprocating simplex air compressors in roughly the 5 HP to 10 HP range on 60 to 120 gallon vertical and horizontal tanks, plus matching basic pump assemblies for replacement or custom builds.

Two-stage compression with intercooling runs cooler and more efficiently at the higher discharge pressures a shop actually needs — commonly 120 to 175 PSI to deliver 90 PSI at the tool. Single-stage units lose efficiency and run hot at that range, which shortens pump life.

Some CT models are supplied without a magnetic starter, intended for installations where the starter is provided separately or an existing control is being reused. If you are not reusing an existing starter, order a model that includes one or specify a starter separately — the unit cannot be safely operated without proper motor starting and overload protection.

A basic pump is the bare compression assembly without motor, tank, or controls. Order one to rebuild or re-power an existing installation where the tank, motor, and controls remain serviceable. For a new installation, a complete packaged unit is normally the better value.

The 5 to 10 HP range typically supports a one to three bay shop with intermittent air demand. Size on the combined CFM of tools running at once plus about 25 percent headroom rather than on bay count alone.

Requirements vary by model across the series. Confirm voltage, phase, and full-load amperage for the specific model against your building service, and verify with an electrician that the branch circuit supports the motor starting current, which is considerably higher than the running current and is what trips undersized breakers.

Pump oil and inlet filter changes on the manufacturer's schedule, daily receiver draining or an automatic drain, belt inspection, and an annual safety valve check. Two-stage units also benefit from keeping the intercooler clean, since a fouled intercooler undermines the efficiency advantage.
