Scissor Low-Rise FAQs
Low-rise scissor lifts raise a vehicle a short distance off the floor — enough for tire and wheel service, brake work, and quick detail or body access. They are the fastest lift to position and use for high-volume repetitive wheel work.
It is a matter of rise height. Low-rise gets the wheels off the ground and puts them at a workable height; mid-rise raises the vehicle further, closer to waist or chest height. Neither provides full standing undercarriage clearance.
This collection spans roughly 10,000 lb capacity from AMGO, Atlas, and Challenger, in both fixed and portable configurations. Match rated capacity to roughly twice the gross vehicle weight of the heaviest vehicle you service, which keeps you comfortably inside the rating during normal work.
Several models in this collection are portable, which lets the lift be rolled out of the way to free the bay. Portable units trade permanent anchoring for flexibility and must be positioned and leveled for each use.
Anything requiring standing room under the vehicle — exhaust, transmission, driveline, and most undercarriage repair. Low-rise lifts are for wheel-level and body-level work. Shops doing general repair need a two-post or four-post as their primary lift.
It depends on the model. Fixed installations are anchored to sound concrete; portable models are not. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions for the specific lift — do not assume a portable unit can be used unanchored if the manual requires anchoring.
Models vary between electric-hydraulic and air-over-hydraulic operation, and voltage requirements differ across the range. Confirm the electrical voltage and phase, and whether shop air is required and at what pressure, on the specific model before installation. Air-over-hydraulic units are common in this class and need adequate air volume, not just pressure.
