A three-stage arm telescopes in three sections instead of two, giving a wider reach range. It retracts shorter and extends longer than a comparable two-stage arm, which broadens the range of wheelbases and lift point positions the lift can handle.

When your service mix spans both very short vehicles and long trucks, or when you frequently encounter lift points that a two-stage arm cannot reach comfortably. Shops with a narrow, predictable vehicle population often do fine with two-stage arms.

Two-post lifts with three-stage arm configurations from Challenger, APlusLift, and Atlas Platinum, spanning roughly 10,000 lb up into the higher capacity classes, in both floor-plate and overhead designs. The wider arm reach suits shops with a varied vehicle mix.

The lift's rated capacity is stated for the complete assembly including its arms. Some designs specify reduced capacity at maximum arm extension. Both configurations appear across the range. Asymmetric offsets the vehicle rearward for better door clearance on passenger cars; symmetric centers the vehicle between the columns and suits heavier trucks. Arm staging and column configuration are separate choices.

Standard pads come with the lift. Trucks with high frame clearance, and vehicles with specific pinch weld requirements, may need stackable adapters or specialty pads from the lift pads and adapters collection. Confirm what is included with the specific lift before assuming adapters are covered.

Arm restraint engagement at each position, pad condition, and free telescoping movement without binding. The additional section means one more wear point, so include it in your routine lift inspection. An arm restraint that does not engage properly should take the lift out of service until repaired.
