2 Post Heavy Duty FAQs

Heavy-duty 2-post lifts engineered for diesel pickups, fleet vans, and commercial vehicles that exceed standard 9,000 to 12,000 lb service lift capacity.

Heavy-duty 2-post lifts are for diesel pickups (F-250 through F-450, Ram 3500, Silverado HD), large commercial vans (Transit 350 HD extended, Express 3500), and similar vehicles exceeding 12,000 lbs gross vehicle weight. Always base selection on GVW — not curb weight — against the lift's rated capacity.

Heavy-duty 2-post lifts are primarily symmetric. At 15,000 to 18,000 lbs, centering the load evenly between the columns is more critical than door clearance. Symmetric design is the engineering standard for heavy commercial applications and provides the most stable lift geometry at maximum rated load.

Heavy-duty 2-post lifts require 4.25 to 6 inches of reinforced concrete at 3,500 PSI or higher, depending on the model. Higher-capacity lifts transfer more shear force through anchor bolts, demanding a stronger slab. Have the floor professionally evaluated before installation if the condition or thickness is unknown.

Heavy-duty 2-post lifts are permanently installed and more efficient for single-vehicle service in a fixed bay. Mobile column lifts are repositionable, require no permanent footprint, and scale to 40,000 to 80,000+ lbs for buses and articulated vehicles. For a predictable heavy-truck fleet, a fixed 2-post is more time-efficient. For variable fleets, mobile columns offer greater flexibility.

Yes. Heavy-duty models have taller columns to achieve adequate lift height under commercial vehicles and typically require 12 to 14 feet of ceiling clearance for full lift travel. Verify the specific model's
ceiling requirement against your bay dimensions before purchasing — it is a commonly overlooked dimension that causes post-purchase installation problems.

Selected models carry ALI Gold Label certification. For commercial fleet, insurance-sensitive, or dealership operations, certified configurations are strongly recommended. Check the ALI badge on individual listings or filter through the ALI Certified Lifts collection for certified heavy-duty 2-post models.

Most heavy-duty 2-post lifts run on 208-230V single-phase or three-phase power. Three-phase models deliver faster lift cycles and more consistent performance under heavy load. Confirm electrical requirements against your service panel capacity before ordering — electrical retrofit is a common additional cost that should be budgeted in advance.
