A jack that sits across the runways of a four-post lift and lifts the wheels clear of the runway, so wheel, brake, and suspension work can be done on a drive-on lift. It rolls along the runways to reach either axle.

A bridge jack lifts one axle rather than the whole vehicle, so rate on axle weight rather than gross vehicle weight, with margin. For general passenger and light truck work a 5,000 to 6,000 lb jack is common; heavier commercial work calls for more.

Bridge jacks are built for specific runway spacing. Confirm the jack's compatibility against your lift's runway width and rail design before ordering. Buying a lift and jack as a combo package avoids the question entirely.

Air-operated jacks use shop air to drive the hydraulic system, so the technician does not pump manually. Hydraulic-only jacks are pumped by hand or foot. Air operation is faster and less effort but requires adequate shop air at the lift.

Only where the lift manufacturer specifies a compatible jack. Bridge jacks are designed around four-post runway geometry. Do not improvise a jack onto a lift it was not designed for.

Check hydraulic fluid level and inspect for leaks, verify the jack holds load without drifting, inspect saddle pads for wear, and keep rollers clean. A jack that drifts under load should be removed from service until repaired.
