Two-post lifts grab the frame and lift the wheels free, giving full undercarriage access — the standard choice for general repair. Four-post lifts use drive-on runways that keep the wheels loaded, which suits alignment, storage, and quick service. Two-post takes less floor space; four-post handles higher capacities and is easier to load.

Select rated capacity at roughly twice the gross vehicle weight of the heaviest vehicle you regularly service. A 9,000 to 10,000 lb lift covers passenger cars and light trucks; 12,000 to 18,000 lb covers heavy-duty pickups and commercial vans. Overhead two-post lifts typically need 11 to 12 feet, low-ceiling models 10 to 11 feet, and floor-plate models can work under as little as 9 feet. Four-post and scissor requirements vary by rise height. Always check the specific model's specification against your actual bay height.

Anchored lifts generally require a minimum of 4 inches of 3,000 PSI concrete in sound condition, with some heavy-duty models requiring more thickness or higher strength. Cracks, expansion joints near anchor points, or spalling must be evaluated before installation.

Some models are ALI Gold Label certified and some are not. Certification is model-specific. Look for the ALI badge on the product page, or browse the ALI certified collections directly if certification is a requirement for your shop.

Lifts ship by LTL freight, normally curbside on a liftgate truck unless inside delivery is arranged. Confirm you have the equipment and people to move the crated lift into the bay, and inspect thoroughly for freight damage before signing the delivery receipt.
