Mobile Column & Specialty Lift FAQs

Mobile column lifts deliver heavy-duty bus, truck, and transit service capability without permanent installation — synchronized columns lift entire vehicles in place.

A mobile column lift is a portable, self-contained lift column that synchronizes with matching columns to elevate a complete vehicle. Columns are positioned around the vehicle wheels and lift in unison, providing whole-vehicle elevation without a permanent lift installation.

Mobile columns are typically sold in sets of two, four, six, or eight. Two columns lift one axle; four columns lift a standard four-wheel vehicle; six and eight-column sets lift articulated buses, transit vehicles, and larger heavy-duty fleet trucks.

Standard four-column sets typically lift 30,000 to 50,000 lbs combined. Six and eight-column sets can lift 60,000 to 80,000+ lbs combined. Always size the column set to the gross vehicle weight, including any cargo or fluids.

Both options are available. Modern wireless mobile column systems synchronize via secure radio link with no cables between columns — the standard for transit and heavy-fleet shops. Cabled systems are more cost-effective for shops where flexible positioning is less important.

No permanent installation is required — that's the primary advantage. Mobile columns roll into position on built-in casters and lift on their own footprint. They do require an adequately rated concrete floor (typically 4-inches minimum 3,000 PSI) and a charging station for battery-powered models.

Post lifts are permanently installed and lift one vehicle at a time in a dedicated bay. Mobile column lifts are portable, lift any vehicle they can be positioned around, and can be used in different parts of the facility as needed. Mobile columns are typically the only practical option for buses, transit vehicles, and very heavy commercial trucks.

Several mobile column lift models in this collection carry current ALI Gold Label certification. See the Mobile ALI Certified sub-collection or check individual product pages for certification status.

Transit authorities, school bus fleets, commercial truck fleets, military vehicle maintenance facilities, and any shop servicing vehicles too large or too heavy for a fixed in-bay lift. They are also used by dealerships with mixed-fleet service operations that don't want to dedicate a permanent heavy-duty bay.
