Scissor Lift FAQs

Scissor lifts deliver stable vehicle elevation without the columns of 2-post or 4-post designs — ideal for tight bays, alignment work, and quick-service operations.

Scissor lifts elevate vehicles using a folding scissor-arm mechanism beneath the lift platform. They are used for quick-service work (oil changes, tire rotation), wheel and brake service, alignment work (on drive-on alignment scissor models), and any situation where a low-profile, column-free lift is preferred.

Low-rise scissor lifts elevate vehicles 24 to 36 inches off the ground — enough for wheel and brake work but not full undercarriage access. Mid-rise scissor lifts reach heights of 48 inches or more — enough for most service work, with technicians sitting on shop stools. Full-rise scissor alignment lifts reach 6 feet or more for full stand-up access to the undercarriage.

Yes — drive-on alignment scissor lifts are an excellent choice for alignment-only or alignment-plus-quick-service bays. They include integrated turn plates and rear slip plates, providing a stable, flat platform with no columns to navigate around.

Surface-mount scissor lifts sit on top of the shop floor with ramps for the vehicle to drive onto the lift. Flush-mount scissor lifts are installed into a recess cut into the concrete so the lift sits level with the floor when lowered — the cleanest aesthetic but requires concrete cutting and a longer installation.

Drive-on alignment scissor lifts can, yes — they include the turn plates and slip plates required for accurate alignment. Standard low-rise and mid-rise scissor lifts intended for service work do NOT have alignment-grade flatness or integrated turn plates and should not be used for alignment service.

Most shop scissor lifts in this collection are rated 6,000 to 12,000 lbs. High-capacity scissor lifts can lift up to 14,000 lbs for heavy-duty applications. Always size capacity to roughly twice the gross vehicle weight you service.

Yes. Most scissor lifts require 4 to 5 inches of 3,000 PSI concrete for surface mount. Flush-mount installation requires concrete cutting and a properly engineered pit — confirm site requirements with the manufacturer's installation specification before purchase.

Scissor lifts typically have a footprint of 6 to 10 feet long by 6 to 8 feet wide. They need less square footage than 4-post lifts and use floor space more flexibly than 2-post lifts because there are no overhead beams or columns to work around.

Many scissor lift models in this collection carry current ALI Gold Label certification. See the Scissor ALI Certified sub-collection or filter for ALI-certified models.
